How to become a guru with no skills or formal education

May 26, 2010 by Marc Gordon divider image

Think you have what it takes to become a social networking guru? To charge large sums of money to tell others how to use Twitter, Facebook and Linked In? The truth is you probably do. After all, there are tons of people already doing it. It’s easier than you think. Don’t let a lack of skill, knowledge or experience get in your way. Just watch and see.

    So…I don’t want to be a guru.

But it also seems like you are saying that if one says they are a guru, that I should be circumspect about how much money, time, energy I give them. Which is a good point.

Do you think there is a place for guru’s in this world? Do you want to be one? Are you one and I just don’t know it?!

    Hi Matt,

It seems to me that those who truly are leaders and innovators in legitimate professions are never referred as gurus. You never hear about a guru doctor, guru accountant, guru rocket scientist, etc. But in many industries where anyone can become an “expert” just by calling themselves one, terms like guru get thrown around like like and empty beer bottle.

I would stay clear of anyone who like to label themselves as a guru.

So am I a guru? I sure hope not.
